Situation:

Creativity is a force that comes from beyond yourself, through yourself. Imagine that you are a pinpoint of light, a focal point of energy that originated in a galaxy beyond. Creativity originates in imagination.

 Prescription:

1. Incubate the idea. Obey the light inside. Do not force it. Ignore what others say. Do not expect recognition now.

2. When the idea becomes clear in your mind seek a person or a place or a way to express it.

3. When you begin to get some recognition for your idea you will encounter distractions that can take you away from your original brilliant plan. Steel yourself against being influenced or interrupted by this possibility.

4.  You have the choice to seek recognition in the world or remain by yourself. Only you know the right answer

5.  As your creative work manifests recognition comes to you, spreading your ideas like light over the world.

6.  Warning: When success comes be careful of ego inflation. After achieving fulfillment, if you are not careful, like Icarus, you may fly too high and fall.

When the yin and yang lines are combined in sets of 3 they form the 8 trigrams (See chart below.) Each trigram is named for a force in nature and has other attributes associated with it. The 8 images of nature that the I Ching is based on are: Heaven, Thunder, Water, Mountain, Earth, Wind/Wood, Fire and Lake. The images illustrating each of the trigrams on the following pages are from my work on interpreting the I Ching called, I Ching Meditations. I include them here to give a face to the 8 symbols of nature depicted for notation in the I Ching.

The origins of the I Ching pre-date literacy. We can not begin to imagine today what it was like to live in an environment that did not include the Internet, telephone, electricity you name it — and be solely dependant upon nature. The people of prehistorical China had to have respect for and awe of nature that in many ways has been lost to our consciousness today. The ancient Chinese did not see themselves as separate from the environment in which they lived.
